A change is occurring in Western culture--a significant alteration in the dominant sensibility of the time. In many ways this is a generational shift, but perhaps it's bigger still. In short, the postmodern era of cool cynicism and commercial superficiality is giving way to a new paradigm. After decades of important though often grueling deconstruction, the notion of "reconstruction" is now in the air. For me, this means a new emphasis on fraught yet crucial human concerns such as beauty, ecology, depth, craft, sincerity, myth-making, the sublime, ceremony, awe, narrative, sustainability, enthusiasm, joy, tradition, mimesis, meaning, and much else:
